Voting Period Begins Friday to Select One Man Who Represents
the Best of Twin Cities
MINNEAPOLIS – March 25, 2010 – Twenty men in the Twin Cities have been selected from hundreds of nominations and applicants to compete for the title of ONE MAN MINNEAPOLIS. On Saturday, May 22 at the Pantages Theatre, one of the men will be identified as ONE MAN MINNEAPOLIS – the man who represents the best of the Twin Cities from the perspectives of community involvement, personality, intelligence, and fitness.
From March 26 – May 21, anyone 18+ can vote for their favorite man by visiting OneManMinneapolis.com. Profiles and pictures of all 20 men are posted online, and more information will be posted in the coming weeks. In addition, a series of five ‘Meet the Men’ happy hour cocktail parties at various Twin Cities locations will introduce the men to the community. Information for the happy hour cocktail parties is also posted online.
“When we hear the phrase ‘generate awareness for local charities,’ we immediately think of the traditional fundraisers, galas or small community events,” said Annette Hanley, Development Officer of Special Projects for Goodwill / Easter Seals Minnesota. “ONE MAN MINNEAPOLIS brings a fresh approach to generating awareness for local charities by helping us select an ambassador who supports our mission. Through media interviews and a series of happy hours organized by One Man Minneapolis, these ambassadors are able to educate the general community about the charities they chose to represent.”

Jeffrey Weinhagen Named
Boys & Girls Clubs of the twin cities
youth of the year
MINNEAPOLOIS, MN, January 28, 2010 – Jeffrey Weinhagen is a true example of an extraordinary young man. At age 17 he has just been selected as the Youth of the Year for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities. Weinhagen is among hundreds of local Youth of the Year winners across the country recognized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) for his sound character, leadership skills and willingness to give back to the community.
Being named Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive. The title recognizes outstanding contributions to a member’s family, school, community and Boys & Girls Club, as well as personal challenges and obstacles overcome. This program was founded over 60 years ago through the generosity of the Reader’s Digest Foundation.
A member of the West Side Boys & Girls Club, Weinhagen stands out among his peers. During difficult times for his family, he remained positive and never gave up hope. His high moral character and desire to contribute to the community provides a model for others. Weinhagen is an active member of the Keystone Club, a teen leadership group that focuses on service through community projects and learning.
Weinhagen is currently a junior at Cristo Rey High School and in addition to being an outstanding student, he is active in student government, choir, and a member of the soccer team. His is also very involved in his church and volunteers for more than 100 community service hours each year.
Upon graduation in 2011, Weinhagen hopes to attend Loyola University in Chicago and study sociology and pre-law with a minor in the Spanish language and hopes to study abroad. He has proven himself by overcoming many obstacles in his personal life to succeed at school, in his community and in the Clubs.
“Club is more than just an afterschool activity for me”, said Weinhagen “It is my second home; a place that brings love, joy, happiness and comfort into my life. The staff are great role models and mentors to me. From them I have learned about leadership, life skills, teamwork, and helping others.”
This April, Weinhagen will compete against other Boys & Girls Club members for the Minnesota State Youth of the Year title and a $1,000 scholarship from Reader’s Digest. If he wins at the state level, then he will compete for the title of Midwest Region Youth of the Year and an additional $10,000 scholarship. Five regional winners will advance to Washington, D.C., in September 2010 to compete for the title of BGCA’s National Youth of the Year. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 college scholarship and is installed by the President in an Oval Office ceremony.
